What Tokenization Can Do for Development Finance

In this report What Tokenization Can Do for Development Finance, developed in partnership with Groupe Caisse des Dépôts and the Chaire Fintech Dauphine of Université Paris Dauphine - PSL, the Tokenized Economies Institute explores how tokenization can reshape development finance by enhancing transparency, efficiency, and trust.

This landmark publication offers a unique, practice-oriented perspective on how blockchain and tokenization are already reshaping development finance. Featuring over 40 real-world implementations, the report presents the most extensive mapping to date of tokenization use cases across sovereign debt, SME finance, humanitarian cash transfers, green bonds, carbon markets, and more.

It also highlights the emergence of shared infrastructure, standards, and institutional-grade design principles required to move from experimentation to systemic impact. We are grateful to Nadia Filali (Caisse des Dépôts) and Prof. Hervé Alexandre (Université Paris Dauphine – PSL) for their leadership, and to the many contributors whose insights shaped this work: Sebastien Fleury (Proparco – AFD Group), Harry Wilson & christopher fabian (Giga – UNICEF), Ronnie Hammad (World Bank), Alexandre Kech (GLEIF), Pankhuri Bansal (UN/CEFACT), Louis Bertucci & Jacques-André Fines-Schlumberger, PhD (Blockchain for Good).

An interactive dashboard will soon be launched to complement the report and help track global initiatives and implementation progress. We invite all stakeholders, institutions, technologists, and policymakers to connect with us and collaborate!
